Job Summary

Beverage Director directs and oversees all aspects of the organization's beverage planning and service with duties to include menu planning, costs, preparation, and presentation of drinks. Beverage director's adherence to quality and safety standards. Plans, coordinates, and oversees special events.

Essential Job Function

• Develop beverage programs, which includes what types of drinks to offer, which brands of liquor to use, pricing, and other menu aspects
• Creating wine lists, beer selections, and cocktail items.
• Order adequate supplies of liquor and non-alcoholic drinks and maintain a sufficient inventory
• Forecasting and keeping track of which drinks are most in demand. In addition, beverage managers must ensure a supply of non-drink bar items, such as snacks, napkins, mixers, and drink garnishes
• Training and scheduling bar staff
• Create schedules for all full- and part-time employees associated with mixing and serving drinks
• Oversee the cost of inventory and supplies and submit reports on a periodic basis.
• Review cost increases and communicate with vendors to review charges and apply strategies to lower costs when possible
• Develops and implements policies and procedures for food and beverage departments
• Track and order shipments
• Communicate and build strong relationships with vendors
• Approves all product invoices before submitting to the accounting department

Preferred Education And Experience

• Proven food and beverage management experience 7-10 years preferred
• Degree in food service management or related field preferred
• Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS)
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to traverse all parts of the restaurant quickly
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time. In some instances, the entire shift
• Intermittent periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Ability to lift at least but not limited to 50 pounds and if more must be with assistance
• Flexibility in the wrist to scoop, twist, push, pull, lift, and bend
• Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., small print)
• Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines (e.g., to identify defects)
• Ability to move quickly turning from left to right or right to left
• Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
• Ability to be mobile in walk-in refrigerator and freezer with temperatures ranging from 40° F to -10° F
