Career OpportunityThe city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Project Engineer . This position leads, oversees, and participates in complex engineering work involving planning, design, investigation, and construction of public works projects. Responsibilities include preparing engineering plans and specifications, ensuring infrastructure designs comply with regional and local master plans, and performing various technical tasks within assigned areas.This recruitment aims to establish an eligible list for current and future openings, which may include part-time or full-time positions.This immediate recruitment is to fill a vacancy in the City Engineer Division of the Department of Public Works. It may also be used to establish a list for future Project Engineer positions across the City of Las Vegas.The ideal candidates are specialized in one or more divisions:City Engineer Division: Strong foundation in civil engineering, hydrology, hydraulics; experience in project planning, design, and execution; familiarity with relevant software and regulations; leadership in monitoring work, reviewing drainage studies, enforcing criteria, master planning flood control facilities, and reviewing construction drawings.Transportation Engineering: Experience with transportation engineering principles, safety and operations applications, and coordination of traffic signals, streetlighting, signing/marking, and ITS improvements.Environmental Engineering Division: Background in civil engineering and hydraulics; experience in project planning, design, and execution; coordination of wastewater treatment facilities and sewer systems; leadership in complex construction reviews.Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives guidance from higher management. Acts as a lead worker, supervising technical staff and overseeing work progress and results.Examination ProcessA civil service exam, consisting of supplemental questions, will determine placement on an eligible list. Falsification may disqualify candidates. The exam is weighted 100%. Applicants must complete the questions individually.Eligible ListApplicants must score at least 70%. The list remains in effect for 6 months, extendable up to 2 years.Selection ProcessFinal selection may include a list placement, interview, and passing a pre-employment drug test, background check, and physical ability demonstration. Some positions require preliminary background checks.Essential Functions:Lead, plan, train, and review work of staff and consultants on civil engineering projects, including traffic and drainage studies.Prepare engineering studies, reports, and master plans for future infrastructure expansion.Review contracts, plans, and specifications; negotiate changes; ensure compliance with standards and regulations.Perform engineering computations, layout, and design from survey data.Identify and plan capital projects, design modifications, and obtain permits.Serve as liaison with other departments and agencies; represent the division in meetings; handle inquiries and complaints.Supervise project staff, participate in hiring, and evaluate performance.Establish design criteria and assist in procurement and contract negotiations.Prepare grant applications and manage project budgets, expenditures, and financial reports.Conduct site reviews, document findings, and operate engineering equipment.Maintain technical records and prepare reports.Marginal Functions:Perform related duties as required.Participate in professional meetings; stay updated on trends and innovations.Experience:No professional civil engineering experience is required.Training:Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field from an accredited institution.License and Certification:Valid professional civil engineer license in any state at application; must obtain Nevada PE license within six months of appointment and maintain it thereafter.Knowledge:Principles of civil and structural engineering, report preparation, mathematics, negotiation, current literature, supervision, project budgeting, relevant laws, and modern office procedures.Skills:Developing and reviewing civil plans, resolving regulatory issues, technical research, operating engineering systems, clear communication, teamwork, judgment, and enforcement of laws and policies.Competencies:Core competencies include professionalism, effective communication, customer focus, adaptability, problem-solving, partnership development, and technical expertise.#J-18808-Ljbffr
