The Henderson Police Department announces the opening of applications for the position of Police Officer. Processing and testing of applicants will occur throughout the year on an ongoing basis. The department is seeking dedicated people of character, courage, conscience, and compassion who are interested in a challenging and rewarding career of service to the citizens and community of Henderson. The pool of candidates from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies for the classification of Police Officer for up to one (1) year. Under general supervision, performs law enforcement duties related to detecting, preventing, and investigating crime and maintaining law and order; and performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license. Upon hire, possess a Nevada or "border state" driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen by the time of application.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application, and age 21 by the start of the academy.
  • Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor. Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence.
  • Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes.
  • Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear.
  • Must successfully complete the Henderson Police Department Academy within the time frame prescribed by the department.
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment.

Assessment Information:

Step 1: Submit Your Application Apply by December 31, 2025, to join us for the May 2026 academy!

Step 2: Written Exam Must be completed within 10 calendar days of receiving invitation to test.

Step 3: Physical Fitness Test Candidates invited to the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will receive an email notice when it is their time to schedule. PFT dates open two weeks in advance.

PFT dates: 10/14/25, 10/29/25, 11/5/25, 11/25/25, 12/8/25, 12/20/25, 1/3/25 & 1/14/25 * Space is limited, so candidates are encouraged to sign up early!

The requirements to pass the PFT are listed below:

Candidates will need to meet the standards shown in the video in accordance with Nevada POST requirements during the academy, the hiring process is based on the requirements listed above.

Step 4: Preliminary Oral Board Interview Conducted via Microsoft Teams after successful completion of Physical Fitness Test

Step 5: Background Investigation Includes Personal History Questionnaire / Polygraph Examination / Fingerprinting

Step 6: Command Staff Interview Candidates who successfully complete backgrounds will be invited for a final interview with HPD Command Staff

Step 7: Conditional Offer Drug Screening / Psychological Examination / Medical & Physical Screening

Step 8: Employment Offer & Academy Henderson Police Academy hours are 6am-4pm, Monday Thursday for approximately 24 weeks

City of Henderson, Nevada Police Officers Contract (HPOA) Benefits Summary

Paid Leave:

Vacation:

  • Employee credited with 20 hours of annual leave at the end of the first six (6) months of employment. After six (6) months, annual leave hours will accrue at 3.33 hours per month (total 40 hours first year of employment)
  • Accrued at 10 hours per month after first year through fifth year;
  • 13.33 hours per month sixth through twelfth year;
  • 16.67 hours per month upon completion of twelfth year and beyond

Sick Leave:

  • Accrued at one shift per month from date of hire

Bereavement Leave:

  • Three
