Custodial Specialist

The Clark County Department of Real Property Management is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Custodial Specialist position. As a member of the County's custodial team, you will perform a variety of cleaning duties in addition to the performance of specialized floor care in Clark County facilities. This position may work at all facilities across Clark County which could include detention facilities, court facilities, coroner's office and morgue and campus locations. This position could also be subject to shift work that includes nights, evenings, and weekends.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources. Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process. Some positions may be confidential positions and are excluded from membership in the union. Minimum requirements include two (2) years of full-time professional experience in janitorial or custodial work. Specialized experience in the area to which assigned is desirable. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Licensing and certification requirements may include possession of a valid Class C, Nevada Driver's License at time of hire. Must pass the airport's Badging Security Class with a ramp designation upon initial hire and complete a Clark County Defensive Driving Class during probationary period.

Working conditions may include extended shifts or being called back in emergency situations. Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts, depending upon the department to which assigned. Background investigation is required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted. Citizenship is required. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions. Medical examination and pre-employment drug testing are required.

Examples of duties include sweeping, vacuuming, shampooing, extracting and performing minor repairs to carpets; assisting in performing more skilled carpet installation and repair. Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping and polishing floors. Washing walls, ceilings and floors of high public traffic restrooms using a high-pressure washer and specialized cleaning equipment. Washing the interior and exterior of windows from ladders, scaffolding or aerial equipment. Maintaining specialized work carts or supply areas with the specialized materials and equipment required for the work; reordering supplies and materials as required. Observing safe working practices, including maintaining storage areas in a safe condition. Performing the full range of custodial duties, such as dusting and polishing furniture and woodwork, counters, windowsills, window blinds and similar fixtures, emptying, cleaning and lining waste receptacles and disposing of trash washing doors, windows, walls, ceilings, window blinds and furniture, polishing metalwork, restocking restroom supplies as necessary, and cleaning lighting fixtures. Closing windows, turning off lights, and locking doors to secure buildings. Reporting the need for maintenance or repair of facilities to the appropriate supervisor; correcting or reporting any fire or safety hazards and placing barriers in public areas. Maintaining equipment, materials and supplies in proper condition. Following label instructions to mix and dilute cleansers, disinfectants and stripping agents to ensure proper strength for use. Answering questions and providing standard information to the public if working in a public facility. Reporting unauthorized persons and other security problems. Contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Keeping basic records of work performed, timesheets, etc. Setting up meeting rooms and rearranging furniture. Driving a County motor vehicle or arranging for appropriate transportation to specified work sites. Restarting public access equipment, following specific instructions.

Physical demands include mobility to perform custodial and related work, including operating hand and power equipment; stamina to stand and walk for extended periods of time and climb significant heights; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
