About the Job

Job Overview:

The Prepper is responsible for checking for vehicle keys, removing and safely securing personal items left in the cars, saving items for a required amount of time, facilitating item disposal, and generalizing the organization of vehicles on the lot. They are also responsible for basic maintenance and the cleanliness of vehicles being prepared for auction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Clean and wipe out vehicles.
  • Watches and helps customers who are on the auction lot.
  • Remove license plates from vehicles.
  • Vacuum and wash vehicles.
  • Clean up the yard and remove hazardous items such as scrap metal and nails on the ground, etc.
  • Air up and/or change tires as needed.
  • Start vehicles to decide if they move/run.
  • Collect vehicle odometer readings.
  • Remove personal items left in the vehicles and log the items properly and securely.
  • Have general knowledge of where certain vehicles are on the lot and the weekly auction lineup.
  • Operate a forklift daily.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Prefer bilingual.
  • Ability to read job orders and work with very little supervision.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Thorough understanding of how to use the tools required for the job or the ability to learn.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Must be reliable and willing to work any shift when necessary, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to use or learn how to use basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to do basic math.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from manager(s)/Supervisors, clients, customers, and the public. Bilingual is a plus, but not required.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some mechanical knowledge is required or equivalent experience.
  • Basic mathematical skills, reading, and writing skills.

  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
