Electrical Engineer I/II/Senior - Pulsed Power (Multi-Level)

Job Title

Enhanced Capabilities for Subcritical Experiments (ECSE) Program is seeking outstanding Pulsed Power Engineers at various career stages (Engineer I, Engineer II, and Senior Engineer) to work with a technical team to install, commission, and maintain the Scorpius Pulsed Power Linear Induction Accelerator.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Engineer I Pulsed Power

  • Assist in installation, troubleshooting, and testing of pulsed power systems
  • Support circuit modeling and data manipulation with guidance.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers on basic modeling tasks.
  • Apply standard procedures and techniques to assigned projects.
  • Participate in documentation, reporting, and inter-department coordination.
  • Contribute to entry-level project work.
  • Serve as a member of technical teams.

Technical Skills/Expectations:

  • Basic knowledge of pulsed power, circuit theory, and diagnostics
  • Exposure to Python, digital/analog circuit design
  • Introductory technical writing and analysis

Electrical Engineer II Pulsed Power

  • Independently install and test pulsed power systems.
  • Develop circuit models and write scripts to support analysis.
  • Prepare technical designs and contribute to proposals.
  • Lead moderately complex tasks within engineering discipline.
  • Define specifications and initiate procurements.
  • Interface with vendors and internal teams.
  • Support planning and reporting activities.

Technical Skills/Expectations:

  • Strong understanding of electrical standards and pulsed power theory
  • Ability to lead tasks and apply cross-disciplinary knowledge
  • Effective verbal and written communication

Electrical Senior Engineer Pulsed Power

  • Lead complex pulsed power system installation and testing.
  • Independently develop advanced circuit models and simulation tools.
  • Mentor early career staff and interns.
  • Represent technical work in meetings and conferences.
  • Develop high-fidelity predictive models.
  • Drive coordination across technical teams.
  • Author technical publications and institutional reports.

Technical Skills/Expectations:

  • Subject matter expertise in pulsed power systems
  • Leadership in technical teams
  • Advanced modeling, reporting, and presenting skills
  • Mentorship and project strategy experience

Qualifications

Electrical Engineer I Pulsed Power: ($66,248.00 - $99,382.40)

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees;
  • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering;
  • Or Professional Engineer license.

Electrical Engineer II Pulsed Power: ($81,307.20 - $121,971.20)

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees;
  • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering;
  • Or Professional Engineer license.
  • Plus at least 2 years' relevant experience.
    • or Master's degree in electrical engineering

Electrical Senior Engineer Pulsed Power: ($99,340.80 - $149,011.20)

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees;
  • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering;
  • Or Professional Engineer license.
  • Plus at least 5 years' relevant experience.
    • or Master's and PhD degree in electrical engineering

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, "Personnel Security". If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, "Counterintelligence Evaluation Program."

Annual salary range for these positions are:

Electrical Engineer I Pulsed Power: ($66,248.00 - $99,382.40)

Electrical Engineer II Pulsed Power: ($81,307.20 - $121,971.20)

Electrical Senior Engineer Pulsed Power: ($99,340.80 - $149,011.20)

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
