Youth Build Construction Trainer

Lay the foundation for a new generation of builders.

The YouthBuild program is designed to provide at-risk youth aged 17 to 24 with the opportunity to earn their high school diploma or GED, receive job training, and gain valuable work experience - all at no cost. This program seeks to improve workforce development opportunities for young people. YouthBuild Phoenix helps participants build leadership skills, engage in community service, and develop career pathways that lead to long-term success in the labor market. The program focuses on construction and other hands-on skills training, as participants work on building affordable housing in their communities.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?

  • You will teach YouthBuild trainees carpentry skills including demolition, rough framing, drywall, and finish carpentry.
  • You will assist in personal and vocational counseling and development of trainees' leadership skills in conjunction with other YouthBuild staff.
  • Your management style will promote teamwork and participation by staff at all levels.
  • You will ensure work-site safety, learning of safety procedures, and proper construction techniques.
  • You will participate in community service projects.
WHO YOU ARE:
  • You are patient and empathetic: You have the ability to remain patient with trainees and understand their challenges to create a supportive learning environment.
  • You are a strong leader and motivator capable of inspiring and motivating trainees to learn and grow.
  • You have an attention to detail which is important for ensuring accuracy in training and for identifying and correcting potential mistakes early.
  • You are flexible and have a willingness to adapt plans and find solutions when faced with unexpected changes or problems.
  • You are willing to travel to separate locations throughout the state of Nevada and out of state as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
  • High SchooL Diploma or GED
  • Must possess Nevada Driver's license
  • Must Possess OSHA 30 Certification in accordance with OSHA managing guidelines
  • Must be willing to attain construction certification in order to certify participants in HBI PACT, NCCER, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in project planning, management, or administration
  • Strong leadership skills and at least three years' successful management or planning experience in a community-based setting.
  • Strong commitment to youth leadership and empowerment and ability to work sensitively and effectively with young people.
  • Successful in creating collaborative relationships or coalitions.
  • Experience negotiating and working with community organizations and public agencies.
  • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills.
