Overview Job Description WSP is currently initiating a search for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Experienced P&C Field Services Technician for our project locations in the states of Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. Successful applicants will be involved in projects with our PTE Team and be a part of a growing organization that is solving problems and supporting client needs in electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems.Your Impact Perform assigned testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high voltage substationsPerform on-site hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150. Examples of relays to be tested are SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60 among othersUse field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activitiesPerform equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directedSupport the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projectsEscalate complex technical problems or unexpected field conditions to the site lead or project managerParticipate in daily safety briefings and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols. Communicate progress, field observations, and potential delays to the project teamMay review the work of less experienced technicians for quality and accuracy, providing informal guidance as neededMaintain attention to detail when filling out logs, photo documentation, and label entries. Collaborate with other technicians to maintain workflow, safety, and quality standardsAssist in monitoring subcontractor performance and activities and report observations to field leadershipPerform clerical responsibilities such as timecards, expense reports, and project reportsExercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and proceduresPerform additional responsibilities as required by business needsWho You Are Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testingDemonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemesTechnical skills related to protective relays include relay calibration utilizing test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing of the sensing CT/PT circuits, ability to upload settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor-based protective relaysProven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standardsDemonstrable knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakersExperience using technical software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset for testing purposes and data reviewExperience with reading and understanding electrical drawingsAbility to identify routine field challenges and equipment issues, responding within established procedures and escalating atypical conditionsSkilled in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reportsPhysical stamina to work in outdoor and physically demanding conditionsExperience collaborating with contractors, technicians, and engineersDemonstrated commitment to field safety, quality, and regulatory complianceGood interpersonal and verbal communication skills for field team collaborationCapable of critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from inspection and testing resultsCapability to support a wide variety of tasks in dynamic or changing environmentsAbility to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and maintain accountability in the fieldCommitment to continued learning and development in technical field servicesUnderstanding of confidentiality and ethical behavior in technical environmentsCompetent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environmentReliable, punctual, with the ability to work independently or with a teamProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policiesWillingness and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, and up to 100 pounds with assistanceSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focusValid driver's license and clean driving recordMust be willing to travel (up to 80%)Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Technology degree in a similar discipline.
